Description
The Cheoy Lee Offshore 47 Yawl is a classic bluewater cruising sailboat from Cheoy Lee Shipyard in Hong Kong, designed by renowned naval architect A.E. "Bill" Luders Jr. and built primarily in the early to mid-1970s (starting around 1973). It was offered in multiple rigs—sloop, ketch, or yawl—with the yawl configuration being a popular variant for its divided sail plan, which aids shorthanded handling, better balance under reduced sail, and favorable IOR handicaps of the era. This model blends performance-oriented design (swept-back fin keel and skeg-hung rudder for good tracking and responsiveness) with Cheoy Lee's signature heavy-duty fiberglass construction, rich teak trim (Burma teak overlays, cap rails, and often laid teak decks), and offshore stamina.
