Piver 31 AA

Piver 31 AA

Description

The Piver 31 AA (more precisely the AA-31 in Arthur Piver's "Advanced Amateur" series) is a mid-sized cruising trimaran from the mid-1960s, designed for amateur or semi-professional builders with enhanced performance and carrying capacity compared to his earlier "Standard" plywood designs. It builds on Piver's philosophy of simple, lightweight, plywood-and-fiberglass construction (often sheathed in fiberglass over marine plywood with double chines for better hydrodynamics and load-bearing), aimed at coastal/offshore cruising while remaining somewhat trailable (with demountable beams reducing width for road transport). This model was part of the AA lineup (Advanced Amateur), which featured sleeker, more sophisticated hull shapes (similar to his professional PI-Series) but simplified for home builders with moderate woodworking skills—no lofting required, using lumberyard materials. The AA series offered about 20% more payload than standard designs without sacrificing speed or handling.
