Abbott 22
Description
The Abbott 22 is a compact, fiberglass racer-cruiser sailboat designed by British naval architect Ian Proctor in the late 1970s and built by Abbott Boats Inc. in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, starting in 1977. It's a production model emphasizing simplicity, affordability, and versatility for day sailing, club racing, or short weekend cruises on lakes, rivers, or protected coastal waters. With a moderate displacement and fractional rig, it's forgiving for beginners yet responsive enough for competitive short-handed (1-2 crew) or family use (up to 4 people). The design features sleek lines with a spooned bow, transom stern, and fixed keel for stability, drawing from Proctor's expertise in small performance boats. Production was limited (likely under 50 units), and it's now a sought-after classic on the used market for its solid build quality and low maintenance. L.W.L.: 18' 9" (5.72 m). Beam: 7' 6" (2.29 m). Draft: 3' 10" (1.17 m). Displacement: 3100 lbs. (1407 kg.). Ballast: 1550 lbs. (704 kg.).
