Alcort (AMF Alcort)
Alcort, Inc., founded in 1946 in Waterbury, Connecticut, USA, by Alexander Bryan and Cortlandt Heyniger, was a pioneering American manufacturer of small, affordable fiberglass sailboats, notably the Sunfish and Sailfish, which revolutionized recreational sailing. Initially focused on iceboats, Alcort shifted to sailboats for year-round production, emphasizing lightweight, user-friendly "board boats" for racing and casual use. Acquired by AMF (American Machine and Foundry) in 1969, the Alcort name continued as a division until the 1980s. Over 300,000 boats were built, with the Sunfish remaining one of the most iconic and widely sailed designs globally.
