Seafarer 28
Description
The Seafarer 28 (also known as the Rhodes Ranger 29 in some markets) is a classic long-range coastal cruiser designed by the renowned Philip L. Rhodes (Design #437) and originally built by De Visscher Shipyard in the Netherlands starting in 1960, with imports to the US handled by Seafarer Yachts in fiberglass construction through the mid-1960s (approximately 50–100 examples total across variants, though exact numbers are scarce due to European production). This masthead sloop features a long keel for directional stability, raked spooned stem, and counter stern, emphasizing seaworthiness, elegant lines, and simplicity for bluewater-capable passages. The fiberglass hull offers a spacious teak-trimmed interior sleeping 4 (V-berth forward, saloon settees converting to doubles, compact galley with sink/stove, and enclosed head), with ~5'10" headroom suited to couples or small families on extended coastal or ocean legs. Known for its stiff, sea-kindly motion (high comfort ratio) and balanced performance in 10–20 knots via a moderate sail plan, it's forgiving yet responsive—excelling upwind but rolling in following seas due to the narrow beam.
