Description
The S2 8.5 Meter (also known as the S2 8.5 or S2 8.5A) is an American cruising sailboat designed by Arthur Edmunds as a compact family cruiser, built by S2 Yachts in Holland, Michigan; introduced in 1980 and produced until 1983, with 103 units constructed as part of S2's lineup of quality fiberglass designs emphasizing spacious interiors and balanced performance for coastal and lake sailing. The fiberglass monohull features a masthead sloop rig, fin keel with spade rudder (standard draft or optional shoal draft), reverse transom, and a practical, roomy interior with berths for up to six (V-berth forward, convertible settee berths, large aft quarter berth), U-shaped galley, enclosed head with shower option, navigation area, and ample headroom (around 6 ft); it provides a large cockpit for daysailing or entertaining, solid construction with balsa-cored elements in places, moderate displacement for good stability and comfortable motion, responsive and capable handling including strong light-air performance from its generous sail area, and a well-regarded reputation for durability, comfort, and value as a pocket cruiser ideal for weekend getaways or extended coastal cruising.
