Description
The S2 8.5 Meter Aft Cockpit (also known as the S2 8.5 or S2 8.5 A) is an American cruising sailboat designed by Arthur Edmunds as a compact family cruiser, built by S2 Yachts in Holland, Michigan; it was introduced in 1980 and produced until 1983, with approximately 103 units constructed as a follow-on model in S2's popular trailerable-to-midsize lineup emphasizing quality fiberglass construction, spacious accommodations, and balanced performance for coastal and lake sailing. The fiberglass monohull features a masthead sloop rig, fin keel with spade rudder (standard draft or optional shoal draft variants), reverse transom, and a practical interior layout with berths for up to six (V-berth forward, settee berths convertible to doubles, large aft quarter berth), U-shaped galley, enclosed head with shower, navigation area, and good headroom (around 6 ft); it offers a large cockpit for comfortable daysailing or entertaining, solid build with balsa-cored deck elements, moderate displacement for stability and seakindly motion, responsive handling, excellent light-air performance from its generous sail area, and a reputation for durability, comfort.
