Rhodes 22 (Continental)
Description
The Rhodes 22 (also known as the Rhodes 22 Continental) is a popular American trailerable pocket cruiser / daysailer designed by Philip L. Rhodes (his design from around 1960) and built by General Boats (now General Boats International) in Edenton, North Carolina, since the late 1970s/early 1980s. It's one of the most enduring Rhodes designs in production, with an estimated 2,000+ hulls built over the decades—highly regarded for its clever features, comfort in its size class, and versatility as a couple's cruiser, family daysailer, or solo explorer. The boat emphasizes "big boat amenities in a small package": roomy cockpit, enclosed head, sleeping for 2–4, easy trailering (beam under 8'6" for most states), shallow draft for beaching/ramp launching, and strong sailing performance. Owners praise its stability (flared hull for non-capsizing under sail in many conditions), unsinkable design (built-in buoyancy), and fun handling—responsive, fast in light air (large sail plan), and capable in moderate breezes. It's often called one of the best trailerable cruisers ever made, with a strong owner community (e.g., rhodes22.org forums, Facebook groups).
