Panda 38

Panda 38

Description

The Panda 38 is a highly regarded bluewater cruiser designed by Gary Grant (with some sources noting influence or lineage tied to Robert Perry's traditional designs) and built by Ta Shing Yacht Building Ltd. in Taiwan starting in 1982. It features heavy hand-laminated fiberglass construction (often with 24 oz. woven roving), a full/long keel for excellent directional stability and sea-kindly motion, a protected skeg-hung rudder, cutter rig, generous teak exterior trim (cap rails, rub rails, coamings), and luxurious interior joinery typical of Ta Shing's "golden age" craftsmanship; it was produced in limited numbers (approximately 30 hulls) as a lighter, faster sibling to the related Panda 40 while retaining robust offshore capabilities for long-distance passage-making, now out of production but sought-after on the used market for its solid build, predictable heavy-weather handling, and classic aesthetics.
