North Wind 435
Description
The North Wind 435 is a classic fiberglass bluewater cruising sailboat designed by renowned Scottish naval architect Angus Primrose and built by the Spanish yard North Wind Yachts (Barcelona) from 1980 to 1998. Approximately 50-60 units were produced, making it a moderately rare but highly regarded center-cockpit masthead sloop (with a ketch rig option for better sail balance in heavy weather). Engineered for long-distance ocean passages, it features a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for protected steering and stability, a generous sail plan for light-air performance, and robust hand-laid GRP construction with balsa-cored decks for strength and insulation. The interior is spacious and luxurious for its era, sleeping 6-7 in 3 cabins (V-berth forward, double amidships, master aft with en-suite), complete with a U-shaped galley, large saloon with dinette and settees, two heads (one with shower), and a nav station—all finished in teak. Standard power was a Mercedes Benz diesel (typically 75-100 hp), with later models often repowered to Volvo Penta.
