Northern 25
Description
The Northern 25 is a classic Canadian recreational keelboat designed by Philip Rhodes and adapted by Dennis Fernice from the O'Day Outlaw 26, built by Northern Yachts in Ajax, Ontario, from 1970 to 1989 with approximately 250 hulls produced. This fiberglass monohull masthead sloop features a spooned raked stem, reverse transom, fixed fin keel with skeg-hung rudder and tiller steering, and anodized spars with wood trim, emphasizing family cruising comfort in a compact package with a voluminous, cleverly arranged interior offering 6 ft 2 in (188 cm) headroom, V-berth forward, settee or dinette saloon, galley, and enclosed head for 4–5 people. It's powered by a reliable Vire 7.5 hp (6 kW) gasoline inboard (originally outboard-equipped, but most refitted due to lazarette flooding issues), delivering a hull speed of 5.88 kn and PHRF handicap of 222 for moderate club racing or coastal passages.
