Cubit
Description
The Cubit is a small, minimalist plywood cabin pram (or "camping pram") designed by Jim Michalak, the prolific American amateur boat designer known for simple, affordable, stitch-and-glue plywood boats that are easy for home builders to construct. Introduced as one of his earlier designs, Cubit prioritizes extreme simplicity, low cost, and basic overnighting capability in the smallest possible package — essentially the tiniest "cabin" boat Michalak could conceive while keeping it practical and buildable. It's a sharpie-style hull with a low-profile cabin (just long enough to lie down in), making it suitable for protected waters like lakes, rivers, bays, or calm coastal areas. Great for solo or duo micro-cruising, fishing, or as a minimalist explorer/tender. Builders often praise it as "cute," "cheap," and "easy" — a step up from pure open skiffs (like Bolger's Teal or June Bug) with shelter for sleeping under a boom tent or in the tiny cabin.
