Allied Mistress 39
Description
The Allied Mistress 39 (also known as the Mistress 39) is a classic American fiberglass cruising ketch designed by Arthur H. Edmunds and built by the Allied Boat Company (later Wright Boat Co.) in Catskill, New York, from 1971 to around 1978. Approximately 60 hulls were produced, making it a relatively rare but highly regarded bluewater cruiser. It was marketed as a comfortable, seaworthy alternative to racer-cruisers of the era, prioritizing privacy, docility, and heavy-duty construction over speed. Available in center cockpit (most common, with walkthrough to aft cabin) and aft cockpit versions, it features a modified full keel with cutaway forefoot, attached rudder, and prop aperture for protection. The MkII (introduced 1975) is the aft-cockpit model with a clipper bow and minor updates; a rare extended-stern variant was called the Wright 40. Allied's overbuilt hull (thick hand-laid fiberglass) and encapsulated ballast contribute to its bombproof reputation—many owners report it as tank-like yet comfortable for long passages.
