Angelo Lavranos
Angelo Lavranos is one of South Africa's most prolific and successful yacht designers, with over 1,400 designs to his credit since beginning his career in 1959. Born in Greece and educated in South Africa, Lavranos studied naval architecture through correspondence while building his first designs. His boats have won numerous championships including multiple South African nationals and international events. Notable designs include the L26, L34, and various IOR racers. Lavranos pioneered lightweight, fast cruiser-racers suited to South African conditions, and his designs have been built worldwide. He's known for innovative solutions, practical cruising features, and boats that perform well in light and heavy conditions. Many amateur builders have successfully constructed Lavranos designs, testament to his clear plans and buildable concepts.
