Charlie Morgan

Charles E. 'Charlie' Morgan (1932-2008) was one of America's most successful yacht designers, whose boats dominated offshore racing in the 1960s-1980s. Based in St. Petersburg, Florida, Morgan designed over 100 custom racing yachts including Paper Tiger (1965 SORC winner), Jubilee (1968 Bermuda Race winner), and numerous other champions. His designs featured moderate displacement, efficient underbodies, and exceptional windward performance. Morgan also designed production boats and founded Morgan Yachts (1965) building his designs, and later Cabo Rico (1975) focusing on traditional cruising boats. His influence extended beyond design to developing Florida as a major yacht racing center. Morgan's boats won hundreds of major races, establishing him as one of America's premier racing yacht designers.
