AMF Alcort

AMF Alcort represents the period from 1969 onwards when AMF Corporation (American Machine and Foundry) acquired Alcort Inc., the maker of the famous Sunfish sailboat. Under AMF ownership, production of Alcort's popular small boat designs continued and expanded, with the Sunfish becoming even more widely distributed. AMF brought industrial manufacturing expertise and marketing reach to Alcort's proven designs, helping make the Sunfish one of the most produced sailboats in history. The company continued producing other Alcort designs including the Force 5, Sailfish, and Hilu. AMF's ownership lasted until 1986 when the sailing division was sold, but the period represents a significant chapter in making sailing accessible to millions of recreational sailors.
