The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, founded by Nathanael Greene Herreshoff and John Brown Herreshoff in 1878, became America's most famous yacht design and building firm. Nathanael Herreshoff (1848-1938) was the chief designer, creating some of history's most successful racing yachts including six consecutive America's Cup defenders (1893-1920). The firm designed elegant steam yachts, revolutionary catboats, and innovative racing designs that dominated American sailing.
