Groupe Finot

Groupe Finot, founded in 1968 by Jean-Marie Finot in Vannes, Brittany, is one of the world’s most influential naval architecture firms, specializing in high-performance monohull sailboats for cruising, club racing, and offshore competition. Initially focused on lightweight, stable designs with wide sterns, high ballast ratios, and efficient fractional rigs, the firm revolutionized production boatbuilding through long-term partnerships with Beneteau (First series: 235, 285, 305, 35, 40.7, etc.), Jeanneau, Wauquiez, and others—introducing beamy, fast, and user-friendly hulls that balanced speed, safety, and comfort. Under Jean-Marie’s leadership until his passing in 2023, and now directed by his son Pascal Finot, the group expanded into cutting-edge ocean racing, designing multiple winning IMOCA 60s for the Vendée Globe (e.g., PRB, Macif, Banque Populaire), Mini Transat prototypes, and Class 40s. With over 200 designs and tens of thousands of boats built, Groupe Finot remains a benchmark for innovation, durability, and performance in modern sailing.
