Sam L. Morse Co.

Sam L. Morse Company was a legendary American boatbuilder based in Costa Mesa, California, founded by Sam L. Morse in 1975. The company specialized in hand-crafted, full-keel fiberglass sailboats inspired by classic 19th-century pilot cutters—most famously the Bristol Channel Cutter 28 (BCC28) and Falmouth Cutter 22 (FC22). Production ran until 2007, with ~150 BCC28s and ~126 FC22s built, each one a labor of love built to heirloom standards.
Sam Morse’s motto:

“Build boats that will outlive their owners—and their owners’ children.”

The yard closed in 2008 after Sam’s retirement, but the boats remain cult classics among blue water traditionalists. Today, Cape George Marine Works (Port Townsend, WA) continues the BCC28 under license.
