Cal Yachts

Cal Yachts, officially Jensen Marine Corporation, was a pioneering American sailboat manufacturer based in Costa Mesa, California, renowned for its high-performance, lightweight fiberglass sailboats that revolutionized recreational boating in the mid-20th century. Founded in 1957 by Jack Jensen, the company produced affordable, racer-cruiser designs, primarily by naval architect C. William "Bill" Lapworth, emphasizing speed, agility, and quality construction. Cal Yachts built over 18,000 boats across more than 50 models, ranging from 20 to 46 feet, with the Cal 20 and Cal 40 achieving iconic status in one-design racing and offshore cruising. Known for their fin keels, fractional or masthead rigs, and solid GRP hulls, Cal boats balanced performance with accessibility, appealing to club racers and coastal cruisers. The brand's legacy endures through active class associations and a robust used market, despite production ceasing in the 1980s.
