Hans Christian Yachts
Hans Christian Yachts is an iconic brand of heavy-displacement, full-keel bluewater cruising sailboats renowned for their traditional aesthetics, exceptional seaworthiness, and lavish teak interiors—often described as "floating works of art" that evoke classic Colin Archer-inspired pilot cutters. Founded in the early 1970s by California high school teacher John Edwards, the brand outsourced production to Taiwanese yards (e.g., Horng Bin, Shing Fa, King Dragon) for cost-effective hand-laid fiberglass hulls with massive teak joinery. Production shifted to Thailand in the 1990s (Andersen Yachts, then Pantawee Marine from 2004) but ceased entirely in February 2017 when Pantawee discontinued the traditional line (33T, 38MkII, 41T, 48T, Christina 43) to focus on catamarans. As of November 2025, no new Hans Christians are built; the brand lives on through a preservation site (hanschristianyachts.com) and active owners' association (hanschristian.org).
