Fair Weather Yachts Ltd.
Fair Weather Yachts Ltd. was a short-lived British boatbuilding company based in Poole, Dorset, UK, active in the late 1970s to early 1980s. Specializing in GRP (fiberglass) bluewater cruising sailboats, the yard is best remembered for producing the Fair Weather Mariner 39 (also known as Mariner 39 or Fair Weather 39), a robust ketch-rigged cruiser designed for long-distance passagemaking. The company built only a handful of vessels (~10–15 total, mostly the 39-footer) before ceasing operations around 1983–1984, likely due to economic pressures in the post-oil crisis boatbuilding industry.
Despite its brevity, Fair Weather Yachts contributed to the legacy of the Westsail 39 design by Robert H. Perry, acquiring molds from the bankrupt Westsail Inc. and finishing hulls in Taiwan for import to the UK and US markets. Their boats emphasize seaworthiness, with hand-laid GRP hulls, encapsulated lead ballast, and teak interiors—hallmarks of 1970s British craftsmanship.
