LeComte Yachts

LeComte Yachts was a distinguished American boatbuilder founded in 1963 by Adolf LeComte in Greenport, New York, specializing in high-quality fiberglass cruising sailboats that blended Dutch craftsmanship with American innovation until its closure in 1974. Initially focused on custom wood craft, LeComte transitioned to GRP with the LeComte 35 (1964) and gained fame for the Fastnet 45 (1968, ~20 built), Medalist 33 (~100 built), and Northeast 38 (~50 built)—all designed by Alfred E. Luders with fin keels, skeg rudders, and teak interiors for offshore reliability. Known for hand-laid hulls, balsa-cored decks, and moderate displacement (D/L 250–300), LeComte boats excelled in SORC, Bermuda Race, and transatlantic passages, with the Fastnet 45 proving itself in Mexico–Australia voyages. After Adolf’s retirement in 1974, the yard closed, but its ~300 hulls remain cult classics for durability and value,
