Yankee 30 Mk II
Description
The Yankee 30 Mk II is an intermediate evolution of the classic Sparkman & Stephens-designed (S&S #1999) racer-cruiser built by Yankee Yachts Inc. in California (primarily 1971–1975, total ~132 hulls across all marks). It sits between the original Mk I (earlier hulls, lighter displacement ~8,700 lbs, shorter rig) and the final Mk III (post-hull ~98 or later, added ~1,000 lbs internal ballast for extra stiffness, redesigned rudder extending effective waterline, and further interior tweaks like an extended port settee/removable dinette). The Mk II introduced incremental improvements—mainly a taller mast/rig over the Mk I for better sail power and performance—while retaining the core hull, narrower beam (9 ft vs. Tartan 30's 10 ft), and solid Yankee build quality. It's a graceful, sturdy, seakindly boat with elegant S&S lines (swept fin keel, skeg-hung rudder for protection/tracking, reverse transom), balancing club racing and coastal cruising.
