Yankee 30 Mk I
Description
The Yankee 30 Mk I is the original/earliest version of the classic Sparkman & Stephens-designed (S&S #1999) racer-cruiser built by Yankee Yachts Inc. in California, starting in 1971. This marks the first series of hulls (pre-Mk II designations around hull #98+), before incremental evolutions added taller rigs (Mk II) and extra ballast plus rudder/interior tweaks (Mk III). The Mk I is the lightest and shortest-rigged of the three, offering a responsive, lively feel in moderate conditions with excellent light-air performance thanks to its generous sail plan. It's a narrow-beam, fin-keel boat with skeg-hung rudder—graceful lines, sturdy overbuilt fiberglass construction, and proven seaworthiness for coastal/offshore use.
