Description
The Westerly Ocean Ranger 38, a robust motor sailer penned by Ed Dubois and crafted by Westerly Yachts in the UK from 1989 to 2000 (around 100 hulls), masterfully fuses seaworthy sailing prowess with reliable diesel motoring for bluewater adventures, accommodating couples or small families in luxurious comfort across its 38-foot GRP hull with a 12.67-foot beam and 5-foot draft. Boasting a 15,900-pound displacement balanced by 6,600 pounds of ballast for a 41.5% ratio that ensures stability in heavy seas—coupled with 625 square feet of sail area and a 30-40 hp Volvo or Yanmar engine—it delivers 7-8 knots under canvas in 15-20 knots of breeze or efficient motoring ranges exceeding 300 nautical miles, all while featuring a deep center cockpit, twin cabins (including an en-suite aft double), a U-shaped galley, two heads with showers, and teak-trimmed interiors that sleep up to seven.
