Westerly 26 Griffon (I, II, and Club)
Description
The Westerly Griffon 26 (often just called the Griffon) is a British pocket cruiser/racer from Westerly Marine Construction Ltd. (Hamble, UK), designed by Ed Dubois as a modern, better-performing replacement for the hugely popular Westerly Centaur. Launched at the 1979 Southampton Boat Show, it was produced from 1979 to 1989, with ~450 total hulls (far fewer than the Centaur due to higher costs and competition from French builders). The Griffon came in three main variants: Mk I, Mk II, and Club (plus keel options: twin/bilge keels most common, fin keel ~4.75 ft draft, or rare lifting keel ~3.25–5.5 ft range). All share the same core hull (solid fiberglass/GRP, robust Westerly layup with good reputation for strength) and masthead sloop rig, but differ in interior fit-out, details, and some minor tweaks.
