Westerly 26 Centaur Ketch
Description
The Westerly Centaur 26 (commonly just called the Centaur) is one of the most successful British production sailboats ever built, with over 2,400 hulls produced from 1969 to 1984 by Westerly Marine Construction Ltd. (Hamble, UK). It's a twin-keel (bilge keel) coastal cruiser designed for practicality, stability, and family use—dries out upright on tidal flats/mud, offers excellent interior volume for its length, and sails surprisingly well despite its modest rig. Designer: Laurent Giles & Partners (the firm founded by Jack Laurent Giles; the Centaur was a more modern, roomier replacement for the earlier Westerly 25, with tank-tested hull lines for improved performance and twin-keel expertise from Giles' prior work).
