Westerly 24 GK (masthead rig)
Description
The Westerly GK 24 (also known as the GK24 or Westerly 24 GK) is a compact British trailerable cruiser/racer from Westerly Marine Construction Ltd. (Waterlooville, England), designed as a family-friendly evolution of Laurent Giles' earlier quarter-ton IOR racer Ebblake IV (1973). It was introduced in 1976 to appeal to both racing crews and weekend sailors, with a choice of rigs (masthead or fractional), keels (deep fin for performance or shoal fin for versatility), and basic accommodations for 4. Production ran until 1981, with 320 hulls built—making it one of Westerly's more successful small models despite its short run. Designer: Laurent Giles (specifically, the Laurent Giles & Partners firm; the hull lines were adapted from Ed Dubois' Ebblake IV quarter-tonner by Giles' team, with input from Westerly's Chris Hawkins for production refinements like increased displacement, deeper keel options, and a shallow/flush deckhouse for better headroom).
