Vindo 45
Description
The Vindö 45 (also spelled Vindo 45) is a premium Swedish bluewater cruising sailboat from Vindö Marin AB (Nötesund Varv AB), marking a modernization of the yard's lineup after financial challenges in the early 1980s. It's often listed with an LOA of around 34 ft (due to measurement conventions focusing on hull length), though official specs confirm it as a 33'8"–34' monohull. Designed by John H. Lindblom (a Swedish naval architect who later worked with Storebro; he updated the range for the new ownership group post-1980 bankruptcy), the Vindö 45 was first built in 1981 (production ran through 1989, with limited numbers—likely under 200 hulls total). It features a solid fiberglass (GRP) hull with external lead ballast on a modified full keel (or fin in some descriptions), combined with the yard's signature high-quality wood superstructure and interior (mahogany/teak joinery, often described as "building fiberglass boats out of wood" for its refined craftsmanship). The design balances traditional Swedish seaworthiness with more contemporary lines and greater interior volume than earlier models like the Vindö 30.
