Vindo 30
Description
The Vindö 30 (note: commonly spelled "Vindö" with the appropriate umlaut in Swedish contexts) is one of the earliest and most iconic models from the Vindö yard (Nötesund Varv AB), located on Sweden's west coast near Orust. Founded in 1926 by Carl Andersson (a third-generation boatbuilder), the yard initially focused on wooden fishing boats and pilot vessels. It gained fame in the 1960s for high-quality small wooden leisure boats, transitioning to fiberglass (GRP) hulls around 1965 while retaining wood superstructures and interiors for a premium, traditional feel. The Vindö 30 was first built in 1963, initially in wood, with later versions (from the late 1960s onward) switching to GRP hulls for durability and lower maintenance. This marked a key milestone for the yard, expanding their reputation beyond local waters. Hundreds were produced until around 1975, when focus shifted to larger models like the Vindö 32, 40, 50, and beyond. The yard faced bankruptcies in the 1980s but influenced later builders (e.g., some molds went to other firms).
