Viking 28
Description
The Viking 28, designed by the C&C Design Group and built by Ontario Yachts in Canada from 1971 to 1976 with approximately 150 hulls produced, is a lively 28-foot MORC-era racer-cruiser featuring a 9.0-foot beam, 22.5-foot waterline, and 5.0-foot fin keel carrying 2,600 pounds of lead ballast in a light 6,200-pound displacement for a spirited SA/D of ~18.5 and PHRF ratings around 168–180. Its tall masthead sloop rig with 408 square feet of sail area delivers quick acceleration and planning ability downwind in 12+ knots, while the hand-laid fiberglass hull (solid below waterline, balsa-cored deck) and high-aspect spade rudder provide responsive handling and proven coastal seaworthiness.
