Vagabond 23 (VG23)

Vagabond 23 (VG23)

Description

The Vagabond 23 (often abbreviated VG23) is a compact offshore-capable cruising sailboat designed by Jacques Martens (a French naval architect), serving as the successor to the famous Serpentaire 22, which won the first Mini Transat race. Introduced in the late 1970s/early 1980s as a plans-built or small-production fiberglass/wood/epoxy design (typically amateur or custom constructed), it emphasizes seaworthiness, speed, simplicity, and strength for singlehanded or short-handed ocean passages while remaining trailerable and shallow-draft friendly. The boat features a fast, well-balanced hull with a fractional sloop rig, moderate displacement for good light-air performance, accommodations for 4 (including berths, small galley, and head), and a reputation for being easy on the crew with excellent stability and handling in varied conditions—retaining the virtues of its predecessor but with updated refinements for better comfort and performance.
