Vagabond 17' 3" Keel Sloop

Vagabond 17' 3" Keel Sloop

Description

The Vagabond 17' 3" Keel Sloop is a classic wooden pocket cruiser design by naval architect Edwin Monk (sometimes referred to as Ed Monk Sr.), featured in his book How to Build Wooden Boats: With 16 Small-Boat Designs (original edition around 1934, with reprints available). It is a compact, seaworthy little cruiser intended as a simple wooden boat for amateur builders. The book presents it with construction drawings, and it appears in a double-chine (multi-chine plywood or plank) version in the plans, though some references note a round-bilge option might exist or have been adapted. Monk reportedly based elements on larger designs by Ted Geary, scaled down into this "pocket" version.
