Description
The Tayana 55 Ketch is a classic bluewater cruising sailboat designed by Pieter Beeldsnijder and built by Ta Yang Yacht Building Co. Ltd. (Taiwan) between 1982 and 1991; approximately 65 hulls were completed in this size range, often with variations including cutter and ketch rigs depending on owner preference. The Tayana 55 is a heavy-displacement fiberglass monohull with a fin keel and skeg-hung rudder, known for robust construction, offshore capability, and comfortable accommodations — typically a center-cockpit layout with generous tankage, teak interior joinery, and extended voyaging systems. Though most spec sheets list it as a cutter, ketch-rigged versions were also offered or later modified, adding a mizzen mast to balance sail and ease handling on long passages.
