Tartan 48 Yawl
Description
The Tartan 48 Yawl, designed by Sparkman & Stephens (S&S Design #2060), was produced by Tartan Marine (initially under Douglass & McLeod Plastics Corp.) in 1972 as a rare yawl-rigged variant of the Tartan 48 sloop. With only 6 hulls built in the entire 46/48 series (yawl likely on 1–2 examples based on plans availability), this auxiliary yawl emphasizes bluewater cruising stability and balanced sail handling via split rigs—featuring a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder for protected performance and a traditional counter stern, sleeping 6–7 in a teak-trimmed interior as a collector's heavy-displacement classic.
