Tartan 3000
Description
The Tartan 3000 is a classic 29'11" (9.1 m) fiberglass monohull sailboat designed by Sparkman & Stephens (design #2397) as a versatile performance cruiser optimized for coastal sailing, weekend getaways, and light offshore adventures, emphasizing responsive handling, stability, and ease of use for couples or small families. Built by Tartan Marine in Painesville, Ohio, from 1981 to 1988 with approximately 97 hulls produced, it features a fin keel with skeg-hung rudder (or optional keel/centerboard for shallow draft: 3'3" board up / 7'2" board down), masthead sloop rig with aluminum spars, and a moderate displacement/length ratio of 235 that delivers a hull speed of 6.8 knots—classified as a moderate-weight performer with good stiffness (low righting capability if capsized but very stable) and a sail area/displacement ratio of 17.2 for lively upwind performance, though it favors a breeze over light airs. Constructed with solid fiberglass hull and balsa-cored deck for durability, the teak-accented interior sleeps 4–5 in a practical layout with V-berth forward, saloon settees, galley, nav station, and quarter berth, offering ample storage and ventilation for overnight comfort,
