Tartan 27 Yawl
Description
The Tartan 27 Yawl, designed by Sparkman & Stephens (design #1617), was produced from 1961 to 1980 by Douglass & McLeod and Tartan Marine, with 712 hulls built across the Tartan 27 series (yawl rig as an optional variant on a limited number, estimated <50 based on rarity). This keel/centerboard masthead yawl refines the original sloop with a shorter main mast and added mizzen for balanced heavy-weather sail handling, offering timeless stability for coastal cruising—sleeping 4–5 in a compact teak interior, and valued as a trailerable classic with forgiving performance.
