Tanzer 25
Description
The Tanzer 25 is a classic Canadian trailerable sailboat designed by the French firm Joubert-Nivelt as a compact, performance-oriented cruiser/racer with a fractional rig, distinctive aft cabin, and spacious cockpit, ideal for couples or small crews on lakes, bays, or coastal waters. It's a small recreational fin-keel sloop known for its speed, ease of single-handing, and solid build, balancing agility with basic comforts for weekend sails or club racing. The design originated in the mid-1980s, with production starting in 1986 by Tanzer Industries in Dorion, Quebec, but halting in May 1986 due to the company's bankruptcy after just a handful of hulls (#001–#016). Tooling and rights then passed to subsequent builders including Canadian Yacht Builders, Challenger Yachts, and Mirage Yachts, continuing limited production through 1988 for a total of about 68 units before going out of production. Early Tanzer-built models are prized for superior construction quality, while later ones feature minor spec tweaks like shoal keels.
