Tammie Norrie (Yawl Rig)

Tammie Norrie (Yawl Rig)

Description

The Tammie Norrie is a compact, versatile glued-lapstrake clinker dinghy designed by Scottish naval architect Iain Oughtred, inspired by traditional Shetland fishing boats. Plans have been available since the 1980s through WoodenBoat and other outlets, with hundreds built by amateurs and professionals worldwide—often as tenders, daysailers, or rowing boats. The yawl rig variant offers balanced sail-handling for light-air performance and stability, with a mizzen mast aft for easy reefing and solo sailing. Featuring a centerboard (daggerboard in some builds) for adjustable draft and chine runners for beaching, it's lightweight and portable, excelling in shallow waters or trailering. Construction uses 4-6mm marine plywood with epoxy, requiring basic to intermediate woodworking skills; no lofting needed. The open cockpit seats 4-5 for picnics or short sails, with thwarts for rowing (up to 2 oarsmen).
