Stevens 50
Description
The Stevens 50 is a classic 50'0" (15.2 m) heavy-displacement monohull sailboat designed by Rod Stephens of Sparkman & Stephens (design #2390 extension) as an elongated version of the acclaimed Stevens 47/Hylas 47, introducing an aft cockpit for enhanced visibility and handling while preserving the original's legendary seaworthiness, speed, and family-oriented comfort for extended offshore voyages. Built by Queen Long Marine Industrial Co. Ltd. in Taiwan under the Stevens Custom Yachts brand starting in 1985, with a limited production run (exact numbers scarce but fewer than 20 hulls estimated), it features a modern hull with raked bow, moderate sheer, elongated fin keel (or optional shoal draft), skeg-hung rudder, and cutter rig for versatile sailing, constructed in solid fiberglass with balsa-cored decks for durability and a moderate displacement/length ratio of around 220 that balances performance (sail area/displacement 16.5) with stability—excelling in heavy weather with a hull speed of 8.2 knots and proven as a circumnavigator. Available in standard aft-cockpit or pilothouse (PH) variants for all-weather protection, the teak-finished interior sleeps 6–8 in a luxurious three-stateroom layout with centerline queen aft, V-berth forward, U-galley, nav station, and spacious saloon, emphasizing ventilation, storage, and liveaboard amenities.
