Description
The Hinckley Sou'wester 42/43 Yawl is a semi-custom offshore cruising sailboat designed by McCurdy & Rhodes and built by Henry R. Hinckley & Company in Southwest Harbor, Maine, USA. Produced from 1982 to 2006 (with the MKII version introduced in 1995 featuring refined lines and systems), approximately 100+ examples of the 42/43 series were constructed, though yawl rigs were less common than the standard masthead sloop configuration—offered for enhanced balance and reduced weather helm in heavy conditions. The "/43" denotes a slightly elongated waterline variant for improved performance. This fiberglass vessel features a fin keel (or optional shoal draft), skeg-hung rudder, raked stem, and reverse transom, emphasizing seaworthiness, comfort, and classic aesthetics with varnished teak accents. Known for its stiff, hand-laid construction and spacious interior (V-berth forward, U-galley, nav station, and convertible saloon berths for 6+), it's ideal for bluewater passages with a moderate SA/D for versatile sailing.
