Sonoma 30

Sonoma 30

Description

The Sonoma 30 is a 29.92-foot ultralight fractional sloop (ULDB-style racer) designed by Carl Schumacher (Alameda, California) and built in fiberglass by Gannon Yachts (Petaluma, California) between 1982 and 1984. Only 37 units were constructed, making it a rare, enthusiast-owned boat with a dedicated following for its speed, trailerability, and fun performance in club racing or coastal events (a "hopped-up" deeper-keel/taller-rig variant was sometimes called the Sonic 30). It features a lifting (retractable) keel for shallow-water access or trailering, a symmetrical spinnaker setup, and a lightweight, high-performance hull suited to light-air sailing with excellent stability for its displacement. Key features include solid construction for its era, a large cockpit, basic but functional interior for short cruises or racing crew, and responsive handling that rewards skilled sailors—often described as a "pocket rocket" for Bay Area or delta racing.
