Sneak Box

Sneak Box

Description

The Sneak Box represents one of America's most distinctive small boat types, tracing its origins to the 1830s on New Jersey's Barnegat Bay where it was developed as a specialized duck hunting boat. Originally attributed to Captain Hazelton Seaman and refined by builders like J. Howard Perrine in the late 19th century, this low-profile vessel was designed for stealth, stability, and load-carrying in the marshy waters of the New Jersey coast. Modern Adaptation: The Glen-L Sneak Box is a modern, plans-built adaptation designed by Glen L. Witt, founder of Glen-L Marine, introduced in the 1970s and available as a DIY project for amateur builders. This contemporary version transforms the historic hunting boat into an accessible recreational craft while preserving its essential character.
