Sirius 28
Description
This Canadian recreational keelboat was designed by Hubert Vandestadt and built by Vandestadt and McGruer Ltd in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada between 1982 and 1987, with 120 examples completed. The design showcases excellent breeding, as Hubert Vandestadt is the nephew of the well-known European designer E.G. Van de Stadt, who created the famous 72-foot South African ketch Stormvogel. Built by the experienced Vandestadt and McGruer Ltd., which had been constructing boats since the mid-1960s and survived major setbacks including fires and industry recessions, this masthead sloop represents "modern conservative" design philosophy. The boat incorporates modern systems for efficient sail handling including inboard shrouds, inboard sheeting, slab reefing with internal lines, sheet stoppers, and internal pre-stretched rope halyards led back to the cockpit. The fiberglass hull features a fixed fin keel configuration with an internally mounted spade-type rudder.
