Siren 17

Siren 17

Description

This Canadian trailerable sailboat was designed by Hubert Vandestadt as a trailer sailer and first built in 1974. Built by Vandestadt & McGruer Ltd in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, between 1974 and 1987, the Siren 17 was one of the most successful small sailboats ever built with 3,200 boats completed during its 13-year production run. This small recreational keelboat features fiberglass construction with foam flotation and mahogany wood trim, incorporating a fractional sloop rig with hinged mast step and jiffy-reefing system. The design includes a transom-hung rudder, retractable centerboard keel, and self-bailing cockpit measuring 7 feet long, with the boat displacing 750 pounds and carrying 130 pounds of iron ballast plus foam flotation for positive buoyancy. The variable draft configuration allows 4.25 feet with centerboard extended and just 0.67 feet when retracted, enabling both beaching and ground transportation on a trailer.
