Silouette 17 MK II

Silouette 17 MK II

Description

The Silhouette 17 Mk II represents a pivotal evolution in Robert Tucker's successful pocket cruiser design, transitioning from fractional to masthead sloop rigging around 1960 while maintaining the distinctive styling that earned the boat its name after readers of The Rudder magazine noted its characteristic silhouette. Built across multiple UK facilities over three decades, this versatile trailer sailer successfully balanced shallow-draft capability with practical cruising amenities, making it an enduring choice for sailors seeking an affordable, trailerable pocket cruiser with flexible keel options and reliable performance characteristics. Built by Hurley Marine in Plymouth and later by Varne Marine among other builders, the Silhouette series was produced for over 30 years from 1954 to 1986, with approximately 3,000 boats of all marks completed.
