Sigma 400

Sigma 400

Description

The Sigma 400 is a 40-foot masthead sloop designed by Rob Humphreys and built by Marine Projects Ltd. (Sigma Yachts) in Plymouth, UK, with production starting in 1990. It represents one of the later and larger models in the Sigma lineup (following the David Thomas–designed boats like the Sigma 29, 33, and 33C), aimed at fast cruising with capable racing potential. Exact production numbers are not widely published and appear to be relatively low (likely under 50 boats, as it was a short-run model near the end of Sigma’s independent production before the merger with Moody around 1988–1993 and cessation shortly after). The boat features solid fiberglass construction, a fin keel with spade rudder, and a practical yet performance-oriented layout suitable for offshore passages or club racing, with owners praising its power, fun handling, and good accommodation (including an aft double cabin).
