Sigma 29 (Sigma 292)
Description
The Sigma 29 (also known as the Sigma 292) is a compact, performance-oriented 29-foot fractional sloop designed by David Thomas and built by Marine Projects Ltd. (UK) starting in 1983. Only about 30 boats were constructed in fiberglass (FG) with iron ballast before production ended, making it a relatively rare model within the Sigma Yachts lineup (which later merged with Moody). It was conceived as an affordable, quick cruiser-racer with a balance of speed in light air and respectable accommodations for coastal or short offshore sailing, often compared to other David Thomas designs like the Sigma 33. Key features include a fin keel with spade rudder, generous sail plan for good light-air performance, and a practical interior layout suitable for 4–6 people. It is known for responsive handling, solid construction typical of 1980s British production boats, and versatility as a club racer or family daysailer/cruiser.
