Shamrock Club Racer
Description
The Shamrock Club Racer (more commonly known as the Club Shamrock 30 or Shamrock Club 30) is the cruising-oriented variant of the famous Golden Shamrock 30 (which you asked about earlier). Designed by legendary naval architect Ron Holland (fresh off his success with the Half Ton Cup-winning prototype Silver Shamrock in 1976), it's built by South Coast Boat Works (or Southern Shipyard in some references) in Cork, Ireland, around 1977–1979. The Club version shares the same fast, proven hull as the racer-focused Golden Shamrock but features a much larger coachroof/cabin trunk for significantly improved interior volume and cruising comfort—making it a versatile "club racer" that can switch from competitive sailing to family holidays. This is a masthead sloop (or fractional on some) with a fin keel, spade rudder, and a stiff, responsive hull optimized for IOR Half Ton rules of the era. It's known for excellent upwind performance (points high and tracks well), good speed in moderate breezes, but can be twitchy downwind if overpressed (classic 1970s racer traits). Owners love it as a fun, rewarding club racer with enough accommodations for coastal cruising—berths for 5–6, better headroom, and a more livable layout than the pure Golden Shamrock.
